Tour my New Studio

If you are a Friends fan you know that saying, “We were on a break". Well that was me, but now I am back and ready for action. My life is pretty normal, but I had to slow down a bit due to building a house, then moving and settling in, getting kids ready to go back to school, then Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year all hit at once and I was exhausted. I took January and Febuary off, and it was a very nice feeling. I did quilt some for Christmas and the new house.

When I designed the new house I made sure that I got an amazing studio. I actually picked this house plan because it was so easy to add the studio to.

My sewing areas were all over the place and separated at the old house. Now, I am in one room and I love it. I would love to share my studio with you.

I am so happy to finally be settled, designing, and writing patterns again with Tonya. She was so patient with me.

So now you know where I have been. I hope you guys stick around and see all we have planned.

Grandmothers Quilt

I remember my grandmother hand quilting. I remember her teaching me to hand embroider. I remember her long gray hair she always wore in a bun. What I wish is that I got to quilt with her, learn from her, spend time with her when I was old enough to really understand and appreciate her.

My Grandmother.

My Grandmother.

She had seven children. Most years she would make seven quilts for each of her children and they were all the same. My grandmother hand embroidered seven, fifty states bird quilt tops one year, and gave them to all the children for Christmas. When I got my longarm my aunt wanted me to finish hers. I was so nervous, because longarming was so new to me. I ended up doing an all over meander and love how it turned out.

I used a vintage sheet on the back and wasn't sorry. My aunt LOVED it. I bound it in a teal that my grandmother used in some of the birds. Even though its all meander, I still love this quilt so much.

I asked my mom "Where are all our quilts that grandmama made us?" Her response was "Debbie we had to use them." She was right. We did use them to stay warm. I am so thankful that this quilt has come back to me. It will be loved very much.

I did finish my moms quilt top also. My daughter will not let me even touch it, and that makes me so happy. Its on her bed. She loves it. One day I will sneak and take pictures of it also. I have a feeling this one will go to my son one day. If I can part with it.

Hugs,

Debbie
